Hurricanes are made up of three major parts. the eye, the eye wall, and the rain bands. The eye is located directly in the center of the hurricane. The average diameter of the eye is 32 - 64 kilometers across. Larger storms such a typhoons may have eyes as wide as 80 kilometres. The storm rotates around the eye, inside is very calm, skies are clear, and there is low pressure. They eye wall surrounds the eye. it can be 8 - 48 kilometres wide. the most damaging winds and heaviest rain can be found in the eye wall. The dense clouds that form around the eye wall is called the rain bands, this is what gives the hurricane a pin-wheel appearance. These dense bands of thunderstorms slowly spiral counterclockwise. they range from a few kilometres wide to tens of kilometres. They are usually 80 - 48 kilometres long. this makes it difficult for the forecasters to use satellite imagery to monitor the storm. Hurricanes are also split into quadrants. The front right, the front left, the back right , and the back left. In several cases tornadoes have been known to form in the front right quadrant during a hurricane.
